Alexa Chung is not only a fashion icon – her talents go well beyond just looking pretty.  She is an English television presenter, model and contributing editor to British Vogue.  And we think you can tell by her style that she is smart, a little quirky and doesn’t take anything too seriously – and we love that!

And…because of all the helping hands out there, our Friday event to raise money for JDRF was BEYOND successful!  We both had our hopes up for a C-RAZY day but, turns out we didn’t dream big enough!  Who knew?  

And you know us girls…we are NOT afraid to dream big!

You came out, you spread the word, you brought friends, you showed up…and for that we say,

As we were cleaning up from the whirlwind of the day, one of our dear friends knocked on the door with her precious daughter in tow, a daughter with type 1 diabetes, so that they could say thank you.  When they left, we looked at each other with tears in our eyes, for they had no idea how the day had turned out as they had showed up to say thank for the effort.

So, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU,  for making Friday go way beyond just an “effort” to raise money and awareness and making it a hugely successful event!

We are so blessed to have all of you as followers, as shoppers, and as friends – you opened your hearts and wallets and because of that we will gratefully be writing a BIG check to JDRF.  

Also,  a HUGE thank you to the girls at The Woods for their generous donation.  Their contribution helped us raise even more money!

PS…

Turns out, we don’t have to send these gorgeous jewels back until Tuesday…so, if you didn’t make it by (or have a piece that you just can’t stop thinking about) we will have their pieces in the store for one more day!

Over the last 2 days we have been like little kids at Christmastime – anxiously awaiting the FedEx man’s arrival…and he has not disappointed!  The talented girls, Sam Hitchock and Shawn Hecox, of The Woods have really outdone themselves…can’t wait for you to see!

And that’s not all!!

We are having a raffle for a beautiful bauble generously donated by The Woods!

This gorgeous wood bead bracelet with pink druzy and diamond charm will go to one lucky winner!

Raffle tickets are $20 each.

(100% of all proceeds from the raffle will go directly to JDRF)

Thats not all!  We will be donating a portion of that day’s sales to  Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  We are really excited to have this opportunity to support JDRF…an organization that is near and dear to us.

OK,  you know we love The Woods, but oh my, words can not describe what the girls have been up to recently!

They have taken it to the next level…just one peek at their new and improved website had us drooling!

 We never know for sure what the girls (Sam & Shawn, the talented sister design duo) will send our way for the trunk show but what we DO know is that they have been working on some amazing new pieces!  We can’t wait to see!

And speaking of new…here are a few of our favorites.  Fingers crossed that we get a few of these little beauties.

it’s a beautiful day…

While it is a beautiful day in our neighborhood today, many of our neighbors are waking up with heavy hearts.  Today we think of all of our neighbors…from West, TX to Boston, MA and those suffering losses that don’t make the news.

We share with you this lovely quote from Fred Rogers:

So, in the midst of tragedy,  let’s not forget about the “helpers”…those people around us with big hearts and love for all mankind – those who would come to the aid of someone who is hurt, help a stranger who is scared and protect us from those who may wish us harm.

Looks like the next few days are going to feel more like summer than spring and that has us getting out our shorts!  Today,  we are looking to some of our favorite fashion girls for inspiration on how to style our shorts from day to night.

One of our favorite looks is styling shorts with a nude bootie (the ones in the photo are Rag and Bone and a favorite around here).  A nude bootie is the perfect touch for taking your shorts from run around daytime-y to a more polished look.

 Here, Jennifer Aniston is casual but still put together – a cute tee & easy accessories.

And speaking of her great accessories, Jennifer has accessorized her day shorts outfit with a new found favorite jewelry line of ours….

We still have a few in the store – they are the perfect summer accessory!

We love this mix of the tailored shorts with the slouchy “sweatshirt” & clutch.

And for those days when you are beachy chic…take inspiration from Gwyneth’s easy natural shorts style.  We just happen to have a darling navy and white sweater from Splendid and cut-offs from Current/Elliot to complete this look.

When you need a little bit more, but still want to look laid back and effortless,  try pairing a blazer & tee with your cut-offs.

Christine Centenera, Vogue Australian fashion editor, looks amazing and super chic in her all black shorts ensemble…

and here she is in cut-offs with an embellished blazer…we are kind of dying over this little number!

And of course, Olivia Palermo, the fashion girl that can do no wrong!  What would a blog post be without some fashion inspiration from Olivia??
